When thinking of a tummy tuck procedure, many people picture a female patient on the operating table. However, society has become much more welcoming of men going under the knife for cosmetic surgery, and as a result, many men are opting for a male tummy tuck and other procedures.
Even though many women do opt for the surgery, doctors say that it's far from uncommon for men to come in for a consultation. However, it seems men have their own set of reasons for wanting to undergo plastic surgery. While many females undergo the procedure after a pregnancy to help regain their pre-baby body, males will have the procedure for two basic reasons – they lose an excessive amount of weight and have extra skin or to combat weight issues resulting from aging.
Regardless of a person's gender, tummy tuck procedures are a good option for those who are physically healthy, at a stable weight, have realistic expectations and do not smoke. However, it is not a way to lose weight or meant to replace an exercise program, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports. Instead, tummy tucks help remove excess fat and skin that won't go away with diet and exercise.
