Are you a comparison shopper? Do you shop around to find the best deal? It shouldn’t be any different when looking for a tummy tuck surgeon. Surgeons, in addition to offering their services at different prices, have different skills, experience, and success rates.

When shopping around for a tummy tuck surgeon, here are a few questions you might want to ask prospective surgeons:

1. Ask about the surgeon’s qualifications.

Make sure they are certified by their local or national plastic surgery associations or boards. Check with these associations to make sure they are in good standing and have no unresolved complaints against them. Also ask the surgeon about their training and experience.

2. Ask if you are a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck.

Any good surgeon will ask about your current health, any past conditions or medical procedures, and your plans for the future. If you are planning any weight changes or pregnancy, they may advise against the procedure or perform it differently. Allergies may also be discussed so you don’t react to any anesthesia or post-op medication

3. Ask about risk factors.

As with any surgery, ask about the general risk factors associated with tummy tucks and any ones that may apply to you based on your health profile.

4. Ask about post-op and recovery expectations.

Ask about their recommended plan for recovery after the tummy tuck including medications, lifestyle, and other considerations. You will also want to know how long they estimate full recovery to take, based on the tummy tuck technique the surgeon uses.

Many of us are visual learners so ask for before and after pictures of real patients, with similar body types to yours. This way you can have more realistic expectations and are not surprised after the procedure.
